A couple of weeks ago I hosted By Design: An Evening of Fashion & Home Styling at one of the best home interior shops in the area, Dolce Designs. The lovely team at Dolce invited my friends and me over for private shopping, refreshments (wine!), and a VIP 20% off discount.
In addition to highlighting spring’s best home décor and style finds, I was inspired to show how the details in your home can offer insight into your personal style. I’m always taking cues from the design of a client’s home when I come over for a Sort, Shop, & Style service. Most of us fill our homes with the things that bring us joy. That is why I pay attention to those details and incorporate what you love into the way you dress.
I brought in pieces from local shops and styled looks based on classic décor themes.
I styled this classic look from pieces most of us already own - a striped shirt, jeans, and a trench coat. Under the striped top, I layered a blouse with floral details in the collar to pick up on the botanical and gardening themes of the surrounding décor.
If you love combining multiple patterns in your home, you can do the same with your outfit. There are a number of principles to keep in mind when mixing prints. One of the most important is to vary the size of your patterns to create balance. Pair smaller scale prints, like the one in this dress, with a belt that features a larger print or texture.
Taking what you love about your home and translating it into your personal style doesn’t have to be literal. Instead, think about the experience you have in your home. For this look, I wanted to capture the lifestyle of beachfront living. For example, the airiness of the sleeveless duster reminded me of the beach breeze. The texture, color, and rope details also capture elements of living near the water.
You can shop all of the looks and similar pieces from the event Lookbook:
